Preparation Subaru Impreza STI EJ20
The car came to us with only the heads to be serviced, after a quick check and knowing the defects of this block we didn't trust ourselves to just grind the heads/crankcase and install the new gaskets.
In fact, at the time of disassembly we were able to notice a classic defect, the cracked heads near the spark plugs!
The block was in such poor condition that it was not possible to recover it
We opted for a remanufactured block, the customer preferred to reinforce it with a closed deck and reinforcement pins around the crankshaft seats.
We then moved on to the actual preparation, starting with dedicated spec C heads with increased air passages
followed by Mahle printed pistons dedicated to stroker kits
Nitto H-connecting rods always specific for stroker kits
What is the stroker kit?
it is a kit that allows you to increase the displacement, in this case we went from a 2.0 to a 2.1 just by increasing the stroke of the shaft without boring the block more.
Obviously, reinforced bushings, ARP main and connecting rod studs and complete boring of the block could not be missing.
We then moved outside, the turbo was also in terrible condition and we opted for a TD05 18G which combined with the stroker kit allows an increase in power at high rpm which combined with the stroker kit does not increase the lag of the turbo
With the engine assembled we dedicated ourselves to a reinforced clutch, complete exhaust, direct intake, the final result is a Subaru that is much more ready at low rpm thanks to the increase in torque and constant power up to 7500 rpm thanks to the increased turbo.
With the engine mounted we had to reinforce the entire front end by replacing all the bolts, silent blocks etc.
